Port and Starboard Yacht Club sounds like a somewhat shallow name, lacking creativity or vocabulary beyond the obvious.   But, it should be noted that the club is not named for the nautical terms, at least not directly.

Rather, Art Totman astutely observed that standing on land, looking out at Bucks Harbor, the ‘Port (Machiasport) and Starboard lie to our left and right, respectively.  For this reason, the apostrophe should not be overlooked.
